A floor display is a corrugated structure asked to do a job usually given to steel shelving. The base carries the full loaded weight, the columns transfer it, and any perforation, tear strip or graphic cutout removes material from the panels doing the work. Unlike a shipping case, it also has to hold that load for weeks in a store, in ambient humidity, being progressively emptied by customers in an uneven pattern that shifts the load as it goes. Getting it right is a calculation from the loaded weight, the shelf arrangement and the store environment. Getting it wrong produces a display that sags within days and gets pulled by the retailer.
Large retailers publish display requirements covering footprint, height, base construction, pallet type and how a unit must arrive, and a display that misses any of them is refused at the distribution centre rather than debated in a meeting.

A shipping case is loaded once and unloaded once. A floor display is emptied gradually and unevenly by customers who take from the front and from the most accessible shelf, which means the load distribution shifts continuously over the display’s life in store. A structure calculated only for the fully loaded condition can still fail part way through, because as upper shelves empty and lower ones stay full the balance changes, and because the retailer will often consolidate remaining stock rather than let the unit look picked over. Ambient humidity reduces corrugated strength across the same period. We calculate for the loaded condition and for realistic partial states, and we specify against the store environment rather than a warehouse one, which is a different and harder requirement than a case has to meet.

Floor and pallet displays belong where volume is placed rather than merchandised, which means club stores, big box grocery and seasonal promotional space. That covers bulk snack packs, multipacks of almost anything, water and beverage, pet food, holiday confectionery and any product with a defined promotional window. They are also common as a route into a retailer for a brand without permanent shelf space, since a floor unit can be sold in as a trial placement. The consistent trap is that the display is treated as a marketing project while the shipping case and shelf trays are treated as packaging, so the two are specified by different people to different counts. Because we source across every format, the arithmetic is settled once, and a repeat placement becomes a reorder against a proven structure rather than a new engineering exercise every season.

No, we source them. Armour Rose purchases from manufacturing partners and sells to customers, and corrugated displays and trays are a substantial part of our volume. The advantage on a display program is that we also source the product packaging and the shipping case, so the display count, the case count and the pack out all get settled against each other. A display converter builds to the brief it receives, and the brief is usually written after the product cases have already been tooled.
Not without consequences. Graphic cutouts, windows and shaped panels all remove material from the structure, and if they cut across a load path the display loses strength exactly where it needs it. Litho lamination also adds a layer that behaves differently from the corrugated beneath it, which matters on panels that flex. The practical approach is to establish the load path first and design the graphics around it, which almost always still leaves ample area for a strong visual. Designing first and reinforcing afterward costs more and looks worse.
There are three routes and they cost differently, and the right one is usually decided by the retailer rather than by you. Packed at the display plant means the unit arrives ready to place, which is what most retailers want and what costs most in freight because you ship structure and air. Packed at a co-packer separates the display manufacture from the filling, which can be cheaper where the product is already going through that facility. Shipped flat for in store assembly is cheapest in freight and least acceptable to most retailers. We quote the options with the labour and freight shown separately so the comparison is honest.
Recycled content is standard in corrugated manufacture and FSC-certified board is readily available, with documentation a partner can generally provide, so the base position is strong. The complication is litho lamination, which is what gives a floor display retail quality graphics and which adds a laminated layer that makes the recycling story less clean. Where sustainability is a stated retailer requirement, that trade has to be made deliberately rather than assumed away. We will set out both options and let you decide which requirement leads. Where a retailer has published a sustainability requirement alongside its display requirements, we would rather see both documents before design than reconcile them afterward.
